Melba

Melba was a CBS network sitcom created by Larry Balmagia and Laurie Gilman, starring singer/actress Melba Moore in the lead role.

The show premiered on January 28, 1986 (which was the same day of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred); it ranked as the lowest-rated program of the week, causing it to be pulled from the schedule.

The remaining five episodes of the series were burned off, airing from August 2nd to September 13, 1986.

Plot[]

The series centered on Melba Patterson (Melba Moore), a divorced mother who worked as the director of New York's Manhattan Visitors Center.

She was raising her 9-year-old daughter, Tracy (Jamila Perry) with the help of her mother, Rose (Barbara Meek) and her white "sister", Susan Slater (Gracie Harrison), whom Melba has known since childhood when Rose worked as the housekeeper for Susan's family.

Jack (Lou Jacobi) and Gil (Evan Mirand) worked for Melba at the visitor's center.
